The Schaumburg High School Environmental Association (SEA) was established in 2010. Our goal is to promote environmental education and participate in environmental outreach within the local community. In 2011-2012 our club developed a hydroponic garden and will be developing a temporary greenhouse in fall of 2012. Since 2010 our students have adopted Carl Hansen Woods and participate in Saturday morning workdays. In 2010 our club members participated in the native plantings at Terada Park near the high school and will be continuing this joint effort with the Schaumburg Park District over the next few years. The club also volunteers their time to pick up litter at local Schaumburg Park District parks on Saturday mornings throughout the year. Our students have also competed in the Northeastern Envirothon and Siemen’s Challenge. At our weekly informational meetings our club members participate in recycling the schools aluminum cans, plant and harvest our hydroponic crops, participate in Market Day fundraising, and prepare for upcoming events. |
