In Debate, students argue matters of politics and philosophy in a structured tournament setting against their peers from other high schools. Debaters must prepare to defend both sides of topics, which are provided in advance of competitions. Students may debate as a team against other teams, or they may compete one-on-one. During practices, students learn how to complete quality research, how to use evidence to back up their claims, how to speak persuasively, and how to use arguments in a logical and convincing manner. Students who participate in debate become confident public speakers, critical thinkers, ethical individuals, and effective leaders. Every student is invited to try out in September.
