Schaumburg High School is proud to present Big Fish, this year’s spring musical. Will Bloom feels that he never knew his father Edward, because all Edward’s stories sounded like tall tales. Since he was young, Will’s been hearing fantastic yarns about a witch, a giant, a mermaid, and how Edward met the love of his life. But when Will marries and is expecting a son of his own, he learns that Edward is terminally ill. In spite of their strained relationship, Will attempts to sort through fact and fiction, and begins to wonder if his father’s stories were more than they seemed after all.
Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday April 20, 21 and 22, at 7PM in the Schaumburg High School auditorium. Prices are $10 for adults and $8 for students or senior citizens. For more information or for ticket reservations, contact Chad Elwell at (224) 653-4404. You can also make reservations via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or SHSBoxOffice@students.d211.org
One student-acted Broadway musical is performed each spring. Auditions are open to all Schaumburg students, but a majority of the cast is chosen from students enrolled in choral music classes. Rehearsals are usually after school and some evenings, preparing for two performances that require about a two-month block of time. Any student may work on set, makeup and other production activities. The pit orchestra is chosen from interested students in both band and orchestra. Cast size varies from production to production. Past musicals have included “Hello Dolly,” “Guys and Dolls,” and “Cabaret.”
